Discovering Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin
Checkpoint Charlie is one of the most visited attractions in Berlin, so if you’re going to Berlin you won’t want to miss this!
This replica represents the separation of East and West after World War II. Furthermore, during the Cold War citizens needed permission to cross. Reasons for wanting to cross were mixed, either citizens were trying to escape the Russian ruling or trying to get back together with family members on the other side.
For the Show
Today, this reenactment of “Checkpoint Charlie” is more for show. You’ll find actors dressed like officers, who will get a snapshot with you for $$. It might seem like a questionable thing to do, since it reminds of the pain for the people who lived in that time.
Above all, this is an interesting area to visit. We visited an interesting exposition as well as part of the Berlin wall. There is however, a more interesting area to visit the remains of the wall. We’ll have another review on that later !
Do we recommend ?
Yes, its an interesting area to visit. Although, Checkpoint Charlie won’t take very long to discover, as it’s simply a rebuilt hut in the middle of the street. The area is nice as there’s much to discover, more on that in our next review !
