Furthermore, it’s a small basilica which presents a very intimate sentiment.  Above all, it holds a 19th century Bohemian art collection, a Gothic style chapel dedicated to Ludmila of Bohemia holds the tomb of the saint. Discovering St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague

Where : St. Vitus Cathedral Discovering St. Vitus Cathedral, Prague St. Vitus Cathedral (or Katedrála Sv. Víta) is definitely one of the top most beautiful Gothic churches we saw in Europe.  It’s located in Hradčany, which is the hillside complex where you’ll find the likes of the Prague Castle and Golden Lane just to name a few.  It’s easy to spend a couple of full days discovering Hradčany. What about St. Vitus ? It’s so rich in details/colors that we kind of got lost in our imagination trying to understand how it was built.  Where does one start putting this concept together !? Alright, outside is a masterpiece but what about inside right !?  It’s hard to describe in words and

Discovering Great Synagogue, Pilsen

Where : Great Synagogue, Pilsen Discovering Great Synagogue – Velká synagoga We took a day trip to Pilsen, a small city in Czech Republic approximately 1 hour by train from Prague.  Our day started with the Pilsner Urquell Brewery tour, you can check the review here – Pilsner Urquell brewery.  When the tour finished, we decided to stay the afternoon to visit the city. Prior to our visit, we only knew about the brewery, so we were happy when we discovered the Great Synagogue. 2nd Largest in Europe According to Wikipedia, the synagogue is the second largest in Europe.  It seemed like it was occupied by Nazi during WWII, and later restored (from 1995 to 1998). Personally, it was the first we

Discovering Karlskirche, Vienna

Where : Karlskirche, Vienna Discovering Karlskirche Karlskirche is a really beautiful Baroque style church located on the south side of Karlsplatz.  It’s really easy to get there by metro. The construction dates from the 17’s century.  There’s a small pond / fountain in the front which creates a mirror effect of the church (see main picture). This is a picturesque location.  Moreover, on a sunny day it’s breathtaking which makes for perfect pictures. Being renovated We’re not sure if the renovations are complete.  During the spring of 2017, Karlskirche was undergoing renovations inside.  This might be reflected in some of our pictures.  We were however, able to access all parts of the church for picture taking. Not free, unfortunately It’s not

Discovering St Martin’s Cathedral, Bratislava

Where : St Martin’s Cathedral, Bratislava Discovering St Martin’s Cathedral. The St Martin’s Cathedral is located in the historic old town of Bratislava. It’s actually on way to the Bratislava castle, you’ll easily find the Gothic style tower.  Actually we tried to visit on our first day after the castle, but they were closed.  So we returned the next morning to be safe.  With this in mind, just double check the hours before you visit. More on it. Outside the church looks quite simple, but it’s far from it when you get in !  Although it’s small (compared to other churches in Europe) it’s really beautiful inside!  You’ll notice the overhead Gothic arches, beautiful and huge stained glass windows and pieces

Discovering Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest

Where : Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest Discovering Fisherman’s Bastion. When you visit Budapest’s Matthias Church and the Castle hill you will see a beautiful terrace closest to the waterfront.  Seems like a boardwalk decorated with seven Castle towers.   Well, that’s the “Fisherman’s Bastion” !  Above all, it offers gorgeous views from Danube River and Pest. What next ? We were expecting a little more.  We paid $3.79 CAD to enter and we were a little confused once we entered. There wasn’t much to discover besides waterfront views.  Our consolation prize, it was a small value for a great view.  It was really nice to see the historical architecture and structures, which according to Wikipedia were built between 1895 and 1902. Accessing Fisherman’s
