Discovering Jewish Museum, Berlin

Where : Berlin’s Jewish museum Discovering Jewish Museum, Berlin We don’t usually visit museums, so we’re very selective on the ones we choose.  We decided to visit the Jewish Museum in Berlin because we heard it was one of the most complete Jewish Museum in Europe.  Also, according Wikipedia it is the largest one too. The museum is located in a nice area of Berlin with a modern style building. The entrance fee was quite reasonable, we paid around $ 8.00 euros per person. How long can we stay ? We spent at least 3 hours ourselves but it’s worth noting that you can spend an entire day exploring if you wish.. It was a breath of fresh air, because many

Discovering Underground Tours, Berlin

Where : Bunker Berliner Unterwelten Discovering Berliner Unterwelten – Berlin Bunker Tours The Berliner Unterwelten is a subterranean museum that must be visited with a guide. This is an amazing opportunity to explore Berlin’s underground history and to visit World War II bunkers.  They are located near the Gesundbrunnen Underground station with the half demolished bunker in the park across the street, which we’ll elaborate in the blog. Many tours to choose from Our ideal tour was to discover underground tunnels that were dug during the cold war.  However, it was unavailable for reasons we forget.  There are many tours to choose from but they did not seem to run every single day. So be sure to check the schedule and availability

Where : East Side Gallery Discovering East Side Gallery, Berlin When we arrived at the East side of the Berlin Wall, we finally understood the idea that “Every crack tells a thousand stories”.  We were impressed with the wall size, the longest remaining section of the Berlin wall. It’s now covered with graffiti (or art) many with a political message. It’s hard to believe it existed in the first place. It’s purpose, was to control the movement of people on various territories (the French, British and Russians). The East side goes along

Discovering Reichstag Building, Berlin

Where : Reichstag Building Discovering Reichstag Building, Berlin We tried to spontaneously visit Reichstag during a spring afternoon on spring, but it was not possible. In order to visit the Reichstag, we needed to subscribe earlier in the morning (or even longer in advance). Also, they require photo ID for your visit, in our case they asked for our passports.  We enrolled in a small office across the street from the building, beside a king of snack bar.  Since it was too late to visit that afternoon, we decided to enrol in advance! The good thing you don’t need to pay, it’s totally FREE to visit !! The next day, we simply needed to show up at the front of the

Where : Topography of Terror Discovering Topography of Terror, Berlin If you are visiting the Checkpoint Charlie in Berlin you can also visit the Topography des Terrors.  We say that because they are nestled in the same area of the city. We took the time to visit the open air memorial with the history of the World War II.  According to Wikipedia is located on Niederkirchnerstrasse, formerly Prinz-Albrecht-Strasse.   During the Nazi regime from 1933 to 1945, it was the SS Reich Main Security Office and the headquarters of the Sicherheitspolizei, SD, Einsatzgruppen and Gestapo. Discovering Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin

Where : Checkpoint Charlie Discovering Checkpoint Charlie, Berlin Checkpoint Charlie is one of the most visited attractions in Berlin, so if you’re going to Berlin you won’t want to miss this! This replica represents the separation of East and West after World War II.  Furthermore, during the Cold War citizens needed permission to cross.  Reasons for wanting to cross were mixed, either citizens were trying to escape the Russian ruling or trying to get back together with family members on the other side. For the Show Today, this reenactment of “Checkpoint Charlie” is more for show.  You’ll find actors dressed like officers, who will get a snapshot with you for $$.  It might seem like a questionable thing to do, since
