A stroll in the Mount Royal park

Discovering Mount Royal park in the fall. There is a very short window in the fall where the colours are at their very best. It’s easy to get caught up in every day life such as work, family and friends.  We find that we’re paying more attention to the colours this year.  The idea was to make an effort to pay close attention to the changing colours.  Hoping to catch as many glances and pictures as we can.  It’s one of nature’s best annual performances.   If you snooze, you need to wait another for the next show.  This year we chose Discovering Mount Royal park. There isn’t an exact date where the colours start changing.  We know from previous years that November tends to be a

Saint Benoit du Lac Abbey

Break the routine Our weekends can get very repetitive.  On a given weekend, we decided to break the routine and took a road trip to discover the Saint Benoit du Lac Abbey. We researched places to visit in the vicinity of Montreal.  The usual places always pop up then we found the magic word – cheese.  Saint-Benoît du Lac looked interesting, so we researched it a little more.  We thought it would be nice to go out and discover a new place.   Montreal to Magog fast or slow Saint Benoit is roughly 1h30 drive from downtown Montreal using the main highway. However if you are looking for a more scenic route, you can achieve this with your GPS selection. For instance,

Vancouver: Discovering Joffre Lake

Living our dream, discovering Joffre Lake ! Prior to our visit in Vancouver, we mapped out places we wanted to visit.  Nothing crazy really, everyday we were waking up and deciding what we were going to do.  We covered it by area, Vancouver north for example, we visited a couple of places in one day (Lynn Canyon, Deep Cove) then another day we did Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and Brunswick beach.  Also on the itinerary was discovering Joffre Lake, Nairn Falls and Whistler. Whistler was on our list of things to visit and we knew it would take an entire day because of the four hours driving there and back plus we wanted to visit a couple of other Provincial Parks

Discovering London, one last look

Discovering London, one last look The fun part from our journey was returning to London and having a couple of days to discover more.  This gave us the opportunity to see more of the city and make sure we didn’t head home regretting.  Lia brought a tourism book along on this trip and it was quite good because it offered things to do depending on the length of your stay (for example 1,2,5,10 days).  This book allowed us to pick and choose some of the interesting places we would like to visit such as pubs, landmarks or events. During this particular part of the trip we were tired, after having travelled across so many countries.  We still wanted to discover more but

Discovering Zagreb – Europe Part 7

Ok let’s be honest … How many people do you know have been to Croatia while visiting Europe? LIA : I will tell you the truth, I never thought to visit Croatia if it wasn’t for my friend Luciane.  She is my Brazilian friend, who acted like a bridge for us to visit Zagreb. During the summer of 2009 we got our luggage ready for Europe and Zagreb was officially on the itinerary.  We would visit for 4 days ! What a surprise! Zagreb is a really cozy city with lots of history.  It’s a cute Old city that is now clean and renovated since their last war. When we went, we noticed some graffiti in some areas that hadn’t been cleaned

Discovering Europe : The way back

The way back and rushing to make our train in Slovenia. During this trip, Lia and I discovered that we easily get carried away on vacation.  We want to maximize our experience and time.  For example, just before leaving Lyon, I was inquiring about a different route back to Slovenia.  ‘What if we head towards Germany or even Austria’ ?  If we had time, it would have been a wonderful extension of the trip.  Sadly, time was not on our side.  We only had 2 days to catch our train in Ljubljana. We left Annecy, heading across Italy towards Venice and Mestre.  But we found ourselves at the Swiss border ‘forehead slap’.  We could have used a GPS at this point.  At least we

Discovering Lyon – Part 5 : French surroundings

Discovering Lyon – Part 5 : arriving in Lyon and how we still wanted more to see.  We wanted to see everything and take it all in. When I (Serge) received the invitation from Lia to visit Europe, I took some time to think about it.  Actually Lia thought I didn’t want to travel with her, because I took so long to answer.  Actually, I took two weeks before giving her an answer.  In hindsight, I’m not sure why I took so long to answer. I had only dreamt of going to Europe until this point.  Would it disappoint ?  The main reason pushing me to go, was my friend (Renaud) living in France.  Something didn’t feel right about visiting Europe and
