Discovering Getreidegasse, Salzburg

Where Getreidegasse, Salzburg

We really enjoyed our stroll down Getreidegasse, located int the historic old town.  Its by far one of the most visited and busiest streets in the city.  It boasts many souvenir shops, from chocolates to Mozart related gadgets, to chic stores like Louis Vuitton.  However, all shops have one thing in common.  They all have a rich, elegant iron guild sign with their store names.  This we found out, is mandatory!

According to Wikipedia, Getreidegasse is also the birthplace of Worfgang Amadeus Mozart.  He lived at No. 9 until the age of 17.  This is why you will find yourself passing in front of Mozart gift shops, Mozart Café, Mozart Museum and alas his monument.

The main street is really charming. There a large numbers of historic residential houses, some now commercial places.  Because it's a touristic area, you will also find many restaurants and attractions around. Consider passing through, as we did to get to the Hohensalzburg.
