Discovering St Stephen’s Cathedral
Once we finished with the FreeWalking Tour, we started exploring on our own. So, as we made our way back to the meeting point, we stumbled upon St Stephen's Cathedral !
St Stephen’s Cathedral is located in the heart of Vienna's Historical Old Town. The Gothic construction will get your attention as soon as you get there. Unless it's undergoing renovations, which was the case when we visited.
More on the cathedral
The Cathedral has a phenomenal outside structure. According to Wikipedia the first structure was completed in 1160 but major reconstruction and expansion lasted until 1511. Repairs and restoration projects still continue to this day. We can see why, it’s so rich in details and you can spend lots of time around just checking it out.
Don't forget to check inside !
The inside of the Cathedral is also really impressive and beautiful. Overall we found it really beautiful, even thought parts of the Cathedral were restricted. It was full of tourists when we visited and we imagine it's often like that. Just keep that in mind in case you're looking for a peaceful place to pray.
