Discovering Fisherman's Bastion

Discovering Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest

Where : Fisherman’s Bastion, Budapest Discovering Fisherman’s Bastion. When you visit Budapest’s Matthias Church and the Castle hill you will see a beautiful terrace closest to the waterfront.  Seems like a boardwalk decorated with seven Castle towers.   Well, that’s the “Fisherman’s Bastion” !  Above all, it offers gorgeous views from Danube River and Pest. What next ? We were expecting a little more.  We paid $3.79 CAD to enter and we were a little confused once we entered. There wasn’t much to discover besides waterfront views.  Our consolation prize, it was a small value for a great view.  It was really nice to see the historical architecture and structures, which according to Wikipedia were built between 1895 and 1902. Accessing Fisherman’s

Discovering The Király Baths, Budapest

Where : Király Baths, Budapest Discovering The Király Baths. We asked a work colleague, originally from Budapest, about what to do when in Budapest.  They immediately told us about the famous Hungary Thermal baths, which are also considered medicinal. This got us researching online to try and find the right one for us.  Some are really touristic with huge swimming pools outside and others or more historic.  We decided on Király Bath, because it felt authentic and less touristy. According to Wikipedia it was the first bath built in Hungary, from back in the 1600’s.  Today, it still retains many of the key elements of a Turkish bath, exemplified by its Turkish dome and octagonal pool. This thermal bath is located

Discovering Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme, Salzburg

Where : Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme Discovering Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme. We quickly visited the beautiful ‘Kapitelplatz & Kapitelschwemme’ square as we left the Salzburg Cathedral.  Actually, it’s also quite close to Residenzplatz and Mozartplatz, so feel free to check these out also. A few things make this square stand out from the rest.  First of all, there is an amazing view from the “Neptune and sea-steed” fountain.  Secondly, there’s a really picturesque view of the Hohensalzburg Fortress and mountains in the background.  ‘It felt like a view out of a magazine!’  Lastly, you’ll surely notice ‘Sphaera’ which is a 9 meter high ’emotionless man’ on top of a golden sphere.  The statue at the top gave us the impression he was gazing at

Discovering Mozartplatz, Salzburg

Salzburg old town and Mozartplatz were both undergoing some construction when we visited in May of 2017. The square has some restaurants, cafes, a touristic office information where you can get some tips on where to visit.   According to one of our pictures, the number 17 on the HopOn HopOff of Old Town tour. The main attraction here is the Mozart Monument, hence the name of the square. Although not 100% maintained, the statue looked nice with flower decorations.  The big kicker is that certain locals don’t like the monument because they say the statue doesn’t look like with the real Mozart. We recommend a quick visit since Mozartplatz is just next to the Residenz square.  Otherwise, there’s just

Discovering Salzburg Cathedral

Where : Salzburg Cathedral We stopped at the Salzburg Cathedral on our way to Hohensalzburg.  This Cathedral was built around the 17th century and has a beautiful Baroque style.  Seems like this is Serge’s idea of most beautiful church he’s visited in Europe. You will find the Cathedral in the Old Town at the end of Getreidegasse or on the way to Hohensalzburg.  This area is quite touristic and a great place to take crafty pictures.  Like most churches in Europe, there is no need to pay to enter.  You can leave a donation if you want to contribute to the upkeep and maintenance.
