Crossing the Confederation bridge to PEI
FYI : Crossing the Confederation bridge toward PEI is free, you pay on the way out !
As we left Shediac with our bellies full of Lobster, we crossed the bridge and headed to Green Gables Heritage Place. This is the setting for the famous 1908 Canadian novel “Anne of Green Gables”. 11 years ago, Eli’s friend had given her this very book, with a special inscription inside wishing her to one day, visit PEI and the Green Gables Heritage Place. Was it a premonition or simply coincidence ?
The Heritage place
The park was under construction when we visited. It appeared that all should be complete by 2019. Despite the construction, we could visit the main house and the legend in the beautiful forest located behind.
Plan ahead
Two birds with one stone. We lacked a little bit of time however, we highly recommend that you visit Cavendish which is a 20 minute drive from the Green Gables Heritage Place. It’s know for beaches and cultural sites of PEI.
Good to know !
- The Confederation bridge is free to enter, you pay as you leave the Island
- Anne of Green Gables is a self guided tour, you can visit the houses and plan a walk in the woods
- If you plan to take a ferry off the Island, it will cost more than the bridge (although it might end up saving you time)
