Discovering Pilsner Urquell Brewery

For our second day in the Czech Republic, we decided on a day trip to Pilsen.  It was easy with the Eurail pass, we just needed to find the train schedule and show up at the station with our passes.  The motivation for this trip was simple, if Serge loves beer and the Pilsner Urquell Brewery tour is in Pilsen – then let’s go to Pilsen !

Accessing the Brewery

Accessing the Pilsner Urquell Brewery tour from Prague is simple.  The easiest way is to take the train for roughly one hour, then walk from the station to the brewery.

Affordable and worth every penny !

The tickets were not expensive, roughly $12cad per person.  We think we paid by credit card, though we’re not completely sure.

The tour

The tour was well organized and lasted around 1h20 minutes.  It began in the main hall, with explanations of the history of the Brewery.  Then we had an overview of the factory and how the beer is made.  There’s a small bus ride between exhibits and the biggest elevator in the Czech Republic.  As the tour progressed, we got closer to the beer tasting !  We also went underground where they had multiple tunnels and the barrels of beer stored.  Finally the best part, beer tasting.  They offered us a fresh, non-pasteurized Pilsner Urquell !

Do we recommend ?

Absolutely !  “It’s worth visiting Pilsen for the brewery even if you’re not a fan of beer”, as our friend Valeria proclaimed.  Everything was well organized and super modern! The tours are offered in different languages (French, English, Spanish to name a few).
It looks like you can reserve and buy tickets online, check out the website here in case you want to book or find out more about the brewery.   We bought our tickets onsite, since we didn’t know exactly what time we were arriving.

At the end of the tour you also can walk around and do some shopping in the beer and souvenirs store, located next to the factory.
