Getting to Versailles
Versailles is easily accessed by train, especially from main cities like Paris. Once at the train station, budget for a 10 minutes walk to the main Palace entrance.
Lots to discover
We thought we were heading to Versailles to visit a Palace. However, Versailles not only has a beautiful Palace with really impressive decorations, there’s also a Garden and the Petit Trianon to discover. Versailles demonstrates the dominance of French luxury style.
The Versailles Garden is one of the nicest we found in France. You can follow the main path or wander in the individual sections which showcase sculptures and various works of art. Most impressively, was the beautiful artificial lake where you can rent a small boat to paddle around.

Make time for Petit Trianon !
Make sure to visit the hidden gem, “Petit Trianon”. It’s a small yet beautifully decorated palace located Southeast of the main palace. According to Wikipedia, this is where Marie Antoinette was going to escape the formality of the court life and to shake off the burden of her royal responsibilities.

Do we recommend ?
Yes we recommend Discovering Versailles Palace, although it can be a little over-crowded. Consider adding the Garden and Petit Trianon to your visit for the ultimate experience.
Tips
- We recommend a visit during week days. Otherwise, get ready for longer wait times during weekends. We decided to visit the palace on a Sunday and cooked under the blazing sun. Regardless of the blazing sun, make sure to bring water and a hat or umbrella. It’s easy to spend an entire day here, so bring some snacks too keep enjoying your discovery.
- Get ready to walk a lot, so comfortable shoes is always welcome.
- If you get to the Palace and the line is out of control, consider starting with the gardens and keep the Palace for last.
